Former Williams Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant is "stepping away from the sport", according to the team he was set to contest the European Le Mans Series with.
Sargeant, who was axed by Williams during his second season in grand prix racing, was set to participate in the 2025 ELMS season behind the wheel of the #18 Oreca 07 - a car entered by IDEC Sport but supported and funded by Genesis Magma Racing.
He even tested the car last November at Paul Ricard.
"We want to give some drivers the opportunity to be part of what we are building," explained Cyril Abiteboul, president of Hyundai Motorsport, last December - Genesis being Hyundai's luxury brand.
"You will see drivers in Genesis colors at IDEC, along with engineers, technicians, and mechanics: they will learn what endurance racing is all about. There will be a strong link between these drivers and us, and potentially even a shared future starting in 2026. We believe Logan deserves his chance."
Sargeant was set to share the car with Mathys Jaubert and Jamie Chadwick.
"They have different backgrounds," added Nicolas Minassian, IDEC Sport's sporting director. "Logan was very enthusiastic about getting back behind the wheel after his dismissal from F1. I think what happened motivated him even more. He was very competitive and integrated remarkably well."

This commitment left little doubt about plans for Sargeant's future involvement in Genesis' Hypercar programme (pictured above in concept form), alongside the likes of Pipo Derani and André Lotterer. However, as surprising as it may seem, the American driver has now decided to withdraw from participating in the ELMS and to step away from what from the outside seemed like a promising future with a manufacturer.
His absence from the tests this week in Barcelona raised concerns, and the news was officially confirmed this afternoon on the French team's social media: "Following the decision of Logan Sargeant to stepping away [sic] from the sport to pursue other interests, IDEC SPORT and Genesis Magma Racing are taking note of his decision and will announce his substitute in the next few days."
There has not yet been a confirmation from Sargeant himself on what has led to the change of plans, and whether his motorsport career is indeed paused or even over.
