Pecco Bagnaia led his 2025 Ducati team-mate Marc Marquez in the opening practice session for MotoGP's Dutch TT at Assen.

VR46 Ducati rider Fabio Di Giannantonio had nipped ahead of Bagnaia's 1m32.401s right at the end, but had his lap deleted for a narrow track limits breach at the final chicane so fell back to seventh.

That left Bagnaia in first by 0.065s over current Gresini rider Marquez.

Bagnaia didn't actually improve his time on softs in the final runs, whereas Marquez's best effort came on his penultimate lap before a chicane detour on his last run. Marquez had earlier led the first part of the session.

Third and fourth places went to more surprising riders in Trackhouse Aprilia rider Raul Fernandez and Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo, both leaping up the order with their late soft-tyre runs.

Maverick Vinales and championship leader Jorge Martin notably stayed on medium tyres to the end and were fifth and 10th respectively, Martin with an early lap that had topped the session for a long while.

Vinales' Aprilia team-mate Aleix Espargaro's session started with a mechanical problem as he attempted to do his first run but ended with sixth place.
