Williams has announced the composition of its new board of directors following the takeover by Dorilton Capital, with 1994 Formula Renault UK champion James Matthews among the members.

Matthews, who is understood to have had an involvement during the takeover process in his capacity as CEO of investment advisory firm Eden Rock Group, joins chairman of Dorilton Capital Matthew Savage and Darren Fultz, the CEO and co-founder of Dorilton, on the three-person board.

Matthews has a connection to the UK royal family, as he is married to Pippa Middleton and is thus the brother-in-law of the Dutchess of Cambridge.

This follows the announcement that the Williams family will no longer be involved with the team, with deputy team principal Claire Williams standing down after the Italian Grand Prix weekend.

An all-new board of directors also means that Mike O’Driscoll is not retained, and the termination of the existing directors has now been confirmed by the UK Companies House.

Williams is expected to announce its management team ahead of the Tuscan Grand Prix weekend at Mugello.

A team statement said: “The new board recognises and appreciates the importance of retaining Williams’ heritage and culture and will continue to work with the senior management to leverage its capabilities to return it to racing competitively.”
