Romain Grosjean will get back behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car for the first time since his horrifying crash at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix, when he pilots Mercedes’ title-winning 2019 car at Paul Ricard next month.
Grosjean emerged from the flames of his Haas following a high-speed shunt on the opening lap of the first of two races at Bahrain last season.
He was forced to miss what would have marked the final two races of his F1 career after Haas decided to change its driver line-up for 2021 and he sustained hand burns, but he insisted that he’d return to the cockpit as soon as he recovered.
Grosjean has already begun his maiden part-time IndyCar campaign earlier this year, and next month he’ll drive Mercedes’ W10 car – as per Toto Wolff’s promise – for a “series of demo laps” prior to the French Grand Prix before completing a full one-day test a couple of days later.
