Mercedes has added to a packed week of 2023 Formula 1 car launches by announcing it will reveal its W14 on February 15.
It will launch the car it hopes will return it to championship contention in the same week as Alpine, McLaren, Ferrari and Aston Martin.
After it won 15 of a possible 16 championships during the first eight years of the hybrid era, Mercedes stumbled in 2022 with a W13 that was riddled with porpoising problems and ultimately only delivered one grand prix victory.
Much speculation has been generated over whether Mercedes will abandon its unique sidepod concept and pivot closer to Red Bull’s victorious RB18 design this year.
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will line up as Mercedes team-mates for the second consecutive season. Russell outpointed Hamilton last year and earned the team’s only grand prix win.
In previous years Mercedes has completed a shakedown with its new F1 car at Silverstone shortly before or after its official launch.
This year’s release promised a “special digital launch event broadcast live from Silverstone”.
Williams’ season launch is the first of the 10 teams on February 6 although the team will only be showing its 2023 livery rather than the car that arrives at pre-season testing.
Williams is currently going to be followed by AlphaTauri on the following Saturday (February 11) and then Aston Martin and McLaren kick off a packed week of car launches on the Monday.
Ferrari will debut its 2023 challenger on Tuesday and will be followed by Mercedes and Alpine on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
Pre-season testing takes place in Bahrain on the following week on February 23-25 (Thursday to Saturday).
