The Haas Formula 1 team has requested to run on Sunday after missing the first morning of pre-season testing.

A problem with the cargo plane originally scheduled to fly to the UK to pick up Haas’s cars and other equipment left it searching for an alternative solution to get its kit to Bahrain.

This arrived on Tuesday evening, almost two full days after other teams, and Haas’s test programme has been delayed as a result.

It has missed the first morning of running but is on schedule to get the VF-22 on track in the afternoon, when it will be driven by reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi.

The Race understands Haas has requested permission to run on Sunday to regain some of the lost half a day because it has happened due to reasons beyond its control.

It is expected that Haas will be granted a short session – reportedly two hours long – on Sunday morning.

That will not be a direct replacement for the four-hour start to the test that other teams had on Thursday, and track conditions will be different.

But if approved it will be useful for a team that is on the back foot after a first test plagued by mechanical problems and restricted running.
