The new Cadillac Formula 1 project has appointed Graeme Lowdon, formerly chief of the Virgin/Marussia F1 team, as its team principal for its arrival on the grid in 2026.

Lowdon has already been working with the programme that began life as Andretti's F1 bid in an advisory role for two seasons.

He has also been in the F1 paddock as part of outgoing Sauber driver Zhou Guanyu's management team.

Mark Reuss, president of Cadillac's parent company General Motors, said Lowdon "has been a pleasure to work with over the past two years" and "knows how to assemble a high-performing team".

Lowdon was integral in bringing the Manor team into F1, initially with Virgin branding and then into its Marussia era, before leaving along with founder John Booth at the end of 2015.

He is the latest experienced F1 appointment to a Cadillac team that already includes the highly regarded former Renault engine chief Rob White as chief operating officer, former Renault/Lotus F1 and Mercedes Formula E technical director Nick Chester in the same role and title-winning Benetton/Renault lynchpin turned F1 chief technical officer Pat Symonds as an advisor.
