F1 Tech Show: What does Renault gain from dropping its engine?

Why is Renault dropping its own Formula 1 engine - and why now?

That's one of two topical developments in the world of F1 for Edd Straw and former technical director Gary Anderson to sink their teeth into on the latest episode of The Race F1 Tech Show, with Alpine's move to customer status scrutinised.

Is this an admission of defeat? Or a way for Alpine to be better-measured against its competition? And would a Mercedes engine supply make the team more attractive as a sellable asset? All of those questions are considered as Gary weighs up the potential positives and negatives of the move.

McLaren's flexible rear wing also caught Gary's eye - as he takes the opportunity to explain why that's not the one thing that's given McLaren its recent performance edge, and why the flexing might not have been something the team was actually trying to achieve.

To round off the show, Gary answers three more questions from listeners, which this week are on engine sounds, tyre management and measuring the slipstream effect.
