Who’s driving when in pre-season F1 testing?

Formula 1 teams have now revealed the majority of their provisional line-ups for the only 2023 pre-season test in Bahrain, which runs from Thursday to Saturday this week.

With just three days of pre-season testing, drivers are mostly getting a day and a half each in the car before next weekend’s season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.

While most teams have committed to an initial plan for the full three days, Ferrari has so far only announced its day one intentions of running Carlos Sainz in the morning and Charles Leclerc in the afternoon.

Aston Martin is also leaving things open for now following the cycling accident that has ruled Lance Stroll out of the test.

Reserve driver and Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich will get the opening morning before handing over to Fernando Alonso.

Aston Martin’s hope is that Stroll will be fit to race at Sakhir next week, but giving Drugovich time in the car is a sensible precaution in case he is not. The nature of Stroll’s injuries has not yet been revealed.

Teams’ plans are likely to change as the test goes on, particularly in case of any teething troubles that cost a driver mileage.

Testing runs from 7am to 4.30pm UK time each day. Follow everything that happens with expert analysis from Scott Mitchell-Malm, Edd Straw, Gary Anderson and Mark Hughes via The Race Live Hub throughout the test.
