The 2020 MotoGP Esport Championship season has begun with contenders challenged to set the fastest lap of Qatar Grand Prix venue Losail using Valentino Rossi’s Yamaha.

The first phase of the competition is the online time-attack based challenges.

This initial challenge with the Yamaha runs until 6PM GMT with the following second challenge running from 19th March to 22nd March and the third and final one taking place between 2nd and 5th April.

The rider and track combinations for the future online challenges haven’t been released yet.

At the end of each online challenge the fastest 15 gamers per platform and region (Europe, Rest of the World) will be awarded by points depending their finishing positions using the official MotoGP scoring system.

Once the points have been tallied up the top 16 from Europe and six from the Rest of the World will then be a part of the Pro Draft. There each MotoGP team will select one main rider and one reserve rider (who would be called up should the main one not be able to make any of the in-person events).

The online challenges take place on the MotoGP 19 videogame but with MotoGP 20 to be released on 23rd April, it will be integrated into later stages of the Esport championship.

The first Global Series round takes place at the Mugello circuit on 29th May. The winner of the Global Series will be crowned the 2020 MotoGP Esport champion and will win a car from BMW’s M range.
